An irreverent family discussion of current events, history, and education (or lack thereof.) Our family values include human dignity, critical inquiry, and a sense of humor.
Patrick
An 11th-hour dropout from Duke's doctoral program in history, Patrick feels most alive when connecting historical dots, exposing absurdity, and making his wife laugh and his kids roll their eyes.
He probably should have been a teacher, but he wouldn't be able to handle the bureaucracy and paperwork. So here we are.
Finn
A documentary filmmaker, political junkie, and amateur historian who still needs the occasional reminder to not leave his dirty socks in the middle of the living room, Finn is a (mostly) wise old man living in a teenager's body.
Meg
An artist, writer, and slow fashion advocate, Meg has a background in philosophy and progressive education. She was deeply influenced by the writing of Paolo Freire and her three years teaching in a rural Montessori school in northern Mexico.
After a decade of homeschooling her kids, she pivoted to focus on her fiber arts business (Sew Liberated). But surprise surprise, she can't let go of child-led, project-based learning, so she enthusiastically followed Finn into this podcast adventure.
Middle kid
Drummer and bass player. Hears mostly Charlie Brown's teacher's voice when others talk politics, but proudly wears Free Palestine hoodies to middle school.
Youngest kid
A "triple threat" singer-dancer-actor in grade school, she credits the musical Newsies for helping her understand the power of labor unions. For her 11th birthday, she wished for a ceasefire in Gaza.
